Why Sarasi
Indian handloom is one of the world's greatest textile traditions. It's also one of its most fragile. Power-loom replicas flood the market under names like “Banarasi” or “Chanderi” that should mean a hundred hours of someone's skill. Real handloom takes weeks. The weaver gets a fraction of what the saree sells for. Their children leave the loom for software jobs, and a craft that survived a thousand years dies in a generation.
We started Sarasi to push the other way. Every piece you buy traces back to a real person — by name, village, and weave. We meet them in person before we sell their work. We pay fairly and on time. And we put their name on every product card and every invoice, because they're the reason any of this exists.
How we work
One artisan at a time
We don't buy in bulk from wholesalers. We meet weavers in their workshops, see the loom, hear their story, agree on a small batch, and pay 30% upfront and the balance on completion. No middlemen. No spec sheets that strip the personality out of a piece.
100% handloom, no exceptions
We don't carry power-loom sarees or factory-printed pieces, even when customers ask. If we wouldn't hand it to a friend with the artisan's name on the tag, we don't sell it.
Six traditions, hand-picked
We currently work in six handloom traditions: Banarasi, Chanderi, Ikkat, Kalamkari, Ajrakh, and Peteru. Each represents centuries of craft practice — and a community of weavers we know personally. We'll add more traditions over time, never just to fill a category.

Sarasi is built by a small team based in Hyderabad — software people, design people, and a network of artisan partners across South and Central India. We're registered as Sarasi Looms and Crafts Private Limited.
